Makna Pesan Salawat Dulang Bagi Masyarakat Minangkabau Di Batusangkar Kabupaten Tanah Datar Provinsi Sumatera Barat

Salawat dulang is a traditional Minangkabau oral art performed by two players with a brass tray or pan as a musical accompaniment. Currently, salawat dulang as a traditional art has begun to be displaced by a more up to date modern art such as a single organ. To retract the public's interest in this art and to preserve the Minangkabau culture so that the era will not be erased, not only by re-promoting this artistic performance but also understanding the meaning of the message contained therein which is conveyed through verse or lyrics. The purpose of this study is to determine the meaning of the message from salawat dulang which consists of the meaning of the inferential message, the meaning of the message of significance and the meaning of the intentional message.
The research was conducted in Nagari Saruaso Batusangkar Tanah Datar Regency. This research uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. The informants in this study were four people consisting of group coaches of salawat dulang, salawat dulang players, community leaders, and the community who were selected purposively. Data collection techniques used are through interviews, observation, and documentation.
The results of this study indicate that salawat dulang in Batusangkar Tanah Datar Regency consists of the meanings of inferential messages, the meaning of the significant messages, and the meaning of the intentional messages. First, the meaning of the inferential message conveyed in the art performance of salawat dulang includes how the human relationship with its creator (habluminallah) includes how to worship, aqidah and morals. Second, the meaning of the message of significance teaches about morals or attitudes / behavior towards mothers and fathers, the environment, how to dress and so on. Third, the meaning of intentional messages includes how human relations with humans / other creatures (habluminannas) such as not discriminating between humans and other humans, associating / making friends with love, reflecting behavior in accordance with the teachings of Islam (not against religion).
