Pengaruh Rasio Serat Anyam Tandan Kosong Sawit- Serat E-Glass/Matriks Dan Coupling Agent Terhadap Kekuatan Tarik Dan Daya Serap Air Komposit Hybrid Menggunakan Metode Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion
ABSTRACT
In the current era of globalization, oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) has begun
to be used as the basic material of natural composite materials where OPEFB waste
contains cellulose in the range of 43% - 65% and lignin by 13% - 25% so that it can
be used as the basic material of natural composite materials. However, natural fiber
composites are still not competitive with the physical and mechanical properties
possessed by synthetic fiber composites. To obtain better physical and mechanical
properties, several efforts are made including combining synthetic fibers (E-Glass)
and natural fibers as reinforcements so that hybrid composites are obtained that are
expected to have better mechanical properties. The purpose of this study was to find
out the influence of the percentage of OPEFB fiber ratio with E-glass fiber,
percentage ratio of hybrid fibers and matrices, coupling agent percentage to tensile
strength and water absorption. In this study also used maleated natural rubber as
coupling agent. OPEFB fibers themselves first through the alkaline treatment
process and then carried out the process of salting with simply twisted yarns fibers
and conventional yarn. Before making composites, an experimental design was
carried out using surface method response. The design of the experiment is a guide
in creating composites based on predefined variables. After the production of
composite material samples, samples are tested for the attractiveness and absorption
of water. The highest tensile strength is composite with OPEFB/E-Glass fiber ratio
(33.18% : 66.81%),i.e. 184.28 MPa and the best water absorption is (50% : 50%),
which is 1.041%. Variations in the volume fraction of woven OPEFB fibers affect
the tensile strength value of hybrid OPEFB/E-Glass fibers with epoxy. Not only
that, the strengthening with the salting of OPEFB fibers significantly improved the
mechanical properties of composites compared to the randomized arrangement of
OPEFB fibers in previous studies.
