Pengaruh Rasio Serat Anyam Tandan Kosong Sawit- Serat E-Glass/Matriks Dan Coupling Agent Terhadap Kekuatan Lentur Dan Ketahanan Impak Komposit Hybrid Menggunakan Metode Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion
ABSTRACT
The background of this research was based on the amount of waste of oil palm
empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) in Riau Province which has the potential to be used
as reinforcement of composites. The problem in previous research was the poor
adhesion between fibers and matrix resulting in low mechanical properties.
Increasing the flexural strength and impact resistance can be done by adding a
coupling agent, hybridization of OPEFB/E-glass fibers, and alkali treatment of the
fibers. This study specifically discusses the effectiveness ratio of OPEFB/E-glass
and epoxy matrix composite with maleated natural rubber (MNR) as coupling
agent on flexural strength and impact resistance with VARI method. The OPEFB
fiber was ectracted with a length 10-30cm and given alkaline treatment used
OPEFB ash solution. OPEFB fibers were coverted into yarn to create woven plain
pattern. To determine the most significant variables that affect the mechanical
properties of the composite, the response surface methodology (RSM) was used.
VARI method was chosen, because it produces composites with fewer voids than
the hand lay-up and vacuum bagging method. The results showed that the increased
impact resistance value was significantly influenced by the addition of E-glass
fiber. The highest flexural strength was influenced by the OPEFB, Matrix, and
MNR fibers although it is not significant. The highest impact resistance value is
775,305 J/m with a volume fraction of 33,182% OPEFB, 50% matrix, and 7%
MNR. The highest value of flexural strength is 112,47 MPa with 50% OPEFB, 50%
matrix and 10,363% MNR.
