Dry eye syndrome (DES) or Keratokonjungtivitis Sicca is a condition of the
corneal surface and conjungtival surface caused by reduced tear function. One of
the risk factors of dry eye syndrome is a history of disease such as diabetes
mellitus. One physical examination to identify this condition objectively is
Schirmer test. This research aimed to determine the relationship between HbA1c
level and tears production in diabetes mellitus patients. A descriptive analytic
study with cross sectional design involved 57 diabetes type 2 patients at Arifin
Achmad Regional Hospital in Riau Province. DES was defined as a decrease in
