Pengaruh Suhu Karbonisasi Dan Ukuran Partikel Pada Pembuatan Karbon Aktif Dari Batubara Bituminus Serta Pengaplikasiannya Sebagai Adsorben Zat Warna
ABSTRACT
Activated carbon is a carbon compound that has a high absorption ability and is
good against anions, cations and molecules in the form of organic and inorganic
compounds, contained in solutions and gases. The study aimed to study the effect
of variations in carbonization temperatures and the effect of variations in coal
particle size on the characteristics of activated carbon produced from bituminous
coal, as well as evaluate the power of activated carbon adsorb produced against
direct brown dye. The study began with the process of carbonization of the
smoothed bituminous coal using 100 mesh and 140 mesh, in a furnace for 1 hour
at 300, 400 and 500oC. The resulting carbon is then activated using HCl 1 M for
16 hours which is further neutralized with NaOH 0.5 M. The activated carbon
produced is calculated and tested its characteristics in the form of moisture,
volatille matter, fixed carbon and ash levels and its adsorbtion power to direct
brown color substances. The results of the analysis, obtained the yield of activated
carbon from bituminous coal of 85,228-94,890%, water content 4-7.5%, volatille
matter 14,256-20,825%, fixed carbon and ash content 75,175-78,244%.
Adsorbtion power testing using UV-Vis spectrophotometers against direct brown
color substances obtained adsorbtion power of 47.17-59.04%
