ABSTRACT
The wastewater of tofu industry has a high content of organic materials, so it can
cause environmental pollution. Based on the parameter test results of the
wastewater of tofu industry studied, it is know that the content of COD
(2644 mg/l) and BOD (698 mg/l) needs to be treatment before being discharged
into the environment. An alternative to process the industrial wastewater is a
process coagulation-flocculation and sedimentation. The purpose of this research
is to remove COD and BOD parameters in the tofu industrial wastewater using a
natural coagulant Moringa seed powder. This study used variations in the
coagulant dose of Moringa seed powder 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 g/L and variations in
the settling time are 30, 45, 60 and 75 minutes. While the fixed variables of this
study were the fast stirring speed is 100 rpm for 3 minutes and the slow stirring
speed of 40 rpm for 12 minutes and the sieve diameter of 120 mesh. The results
showed that the coagulant dose of Moringa seed powder was 3.5 g/L and settling
time of 60 minutes was the best result with an efficiency of 80.7% COD removal
and 80.5% BOD, so this study fulfill the wastewater quality standars.
