Education has become a national priority in preparing for the Golden Generation 2045 through the implementation of a 12-year compulsory education program and substantial budget allocations. However, the issue of school dropout remains a significant challenge, particularly in North Sumatra Province, which recorded the highest number of high school dropouts nationally in 2023, totaling 1263 students. This study aims to identify the determining factors influencing school dropout rate that can serve as a reference for efforts to reduce school dropout rate, especially in North Sumatra. The method used in this study is truncated spline nonparametric regression, with five predictor variables: percentage of the population living in poverty, population density, literacy rate, teacher-to-student ratio, and school-to-student ratio.
